Why Are People Moving to Charlotte from New York - Video
New Yorkers Are Heading South
As we were all taught to believe, a big city is THE place to be. All of the movies and TV shows are happening in cities like New York, and we're all assured that setting up a shop in such a place is the easiest way to 'make it'. However, this trend seems to be changing. In recent times, lots of people started moving to Charlotte from New York. In fact, the statistics of those moving out of New York City is way up and movers in NYC can't keep up with the demand. Naturally, we wanted to find out the reasons behind this, so we listened to the buzz.
Each of them, of course, have different reasons, but some things seem to be constant. For starters, Charlotte has wonderful weather, an excellent job market, and beautiful neighborhoods. Young professionals seem to understand that as they are a significant portion of those replacing the Big Apple for our Queen City. Keep reading to find out more reasons for you to do the same.
The Economy Is Booming
As you probably already know, although it's not a big and bustling city like New York is, Charlotte isn't exactly a small town. In the past few years, it has been continuously ranking high among the nation's metropolitan areas for predicted growth. And as you can expect, with all these people coming in, new businesses rushed in also.
All of that lead to Charlotte being one of the best places in the United States to find employment; the job market is even one of the 7 reasons to move to Charlotte. Currently, there's a high demand for workers in the area of banking and human resources, but there's no shortage of other jobs either. We are the nation's largest banking city (just behind NYC and in a virtual tie with San Francisco).
Great Schools Throughout
Every parent wants the best education for their child, and Charlotte offers plenty of options. And then there's neighboring Fort Mill, South Carolina! There's a wide variety of primary schools to choose from, whether you opt for private or public education. One additional bonus here is that your kids will have access to high-quality education options all the way through university as well. And they don't have to move anywhere to get it.
When it comes to high schools, there are also several options to choose from, so you just have to pick your favorite area, drill deep into your own research, and hire reliable movers to get here without any stress. New high schools are being built (notably Catawba Ridge High School and Indian Land High School across the NC - SC state line). You're not losing anything by joining those leaving New York in droves.
Your Quality of Life Will Increase
Anyone who's thinking about moving to Charlotte from New York will be pleased to hear that the cost of living here is just below the national average. That may not sound like a big deal, but if we know these numbers look like in the City That Never Sleeps, this becomes refreshing news.
The cost of housing is also a little bit below the national average. Therefore, all the amenities of a city will be at your fingertips for a fraction of the price. There are, of course, premium options when it comes to buying a house, and you can check them out using my powerful Charlotte area real estate lookup search.
Many former New Yorkers we talked with told us that the small-town charm is what brought them here. The small neighborhoods and family-friendly events all year round are the things that keep this charm alive. Additionally, having the fantastic LYNX transportation light rail system and B-Cycle (bike-sharing program) made the city even more accessible. So, you don't even need a car necessarily. And that's a big selling point for many that are coming from the Big Apple.
You Won't Be Bored
There's never a dull moment in Charlotte; we can promise you that. You see, the people living here simply love their sports. Therefore, make sure to carefully choose the shade of blue you'll be wearing on game weekends. However, if you're a fan of NASCAR, you'll want to make sure your vehicle is ready to be transferred before making the move so that you can drive safely drive to the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
On the other hand, if arts are more your cup of tea, be sure to check out the South End Gallery Crawl happening on the first Friday of every month. You'll discover some amazing emerging artists, as well as some well-established ones. Also, keep an eye on the Romare Bearden Park for top-notch entertainment in the city. There's nothing better than a combination of free concerts and a breathtaking skyline.
Great Outdoor Options
One more amenity that is pretty lacking in New York City is access to the outdoors. Luckily, when you're living in Charlotte, you will have a much easier time connecting to nature. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is less than 2 hours from the city, and some options are even closer. And then there's funky Asheville! Pros and cons of living in Charlotte? Mostly pros, of course.
Reedy Creek Nature Preserve has more than 10 miles of hiking trails. And if you love going down the mountain on a bike, you'll be pleased to hear that the US National Whitewater Center has the best singletrack mountain biking in the region. All in all, there's something for everyone here, and there's undoubtedly no shortage of ways to enjoy nature.
Mild Weather Will Suit You
And the last reason why people are moving to Charlotte from New York is the weather. Even though the Queen City has all four seasons, the winters are very mild, contrary to NYC. Summers can be warm, but nothing is a problem when you have access to the mountains and the beach. Here, you can find a temperature range that suits you perfectly, no matter the season.
