Indian Land SC aka The ‘Red Rose City’
Rich History In the City
Indian Land South Carolina is a small village that has such a rich history. It’s an unincorporated community in Lancaster County. The name derives from the fact that the area was lived in predominantly by Native Americans as Europeans moved into the surrounding area. In its day, Indian Land was referred to as the “Garden of Eden” by the Native tribes, for the land’s immense beauty which it still holds to this day. Another name this village goes by is the “Red Rose City”. Why? Newcomers named the area for their homelands in England, where the House of Lancaster fought the House of York in the ‘legendary’ War of The Roses, hence the name, “Red Rose City”. Hey, wait a minute! Is that why we have Lancaster County and York County, just south of Charlotte?
